I moved apartments this past week. Phhh, I'm glad that's over.I realized something interesting though. A little over a year ago i moved to Spain in 2 suitcases. Somehow in that span of time, my belongings have managed to multiply like the loaves and fishes, and have turned into enough junk to fill an entire apartment. If I was to pack up and leave tomorrow, I might need my own 747 just to transport all the goods.Like for real...where did all these _____ come from. I had to start chunking stuff.
It’s funny how we tend to accumulate so many things in life. Whether we’re talking about clothes, relationships, or responsibilities, stuff just seem to collect! And believe it or not, not all those goodies are things we need or want. But sometimes they get to stick around just because we don’t know what else to do with them. We can almost get boxed in by them.
Do you feel trapped?
Are there things you want to do, but they remain a distant dream because of the place you find yourself in? Do you think there may be opportunities that you are missing out on because your life is so full of stuff?I have good news peeps. If you don’t bleed it, you don’t need it anymoreI’m currently "in transition” in a few areas. I was having coffee with a friend the other day and was explaining the way i felt about a few different opportunities i was looking into. He let me talk for a minute and then said…”But which one are you passionate about…I know which one, but do you?” He went on to challenge me that “If the thing you are passionate about is what you really want to do, why are you even looking into other possibilities?"It made me realize that i sometimes get myself into things that seem like a good idea…but in reality, i don’t bleed them. And following James Bay’s logic, i don’t need them anymore.
What could you get rid of?
Maybe like me you’ve accumulated a ton of stuff and/or gotten yourself into some situations that you just aren’t “bleeding", and those things are standing in the way of the things you really want to pursue - the business you’ve been wanting to start, the people or cause that your heart aches for, the life on the road you’ve dreamed of, etc.I wonder if you can we can get rid of some of those things that box us in.I’m not necessarily telling you to quit your job and live your life on whims and feelings. As Benjamin Franklin wisely said, “If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins."But i do think that it’s sometimes ok to get rid of things in your life that you aren’t passionate about, even beyond the understanding of those around you.
